The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency due to ongoing power supply outages in northern Nigeria.
In a statement released by National Publicity Secretary Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, ACF emphasized the urgent need to address the issue, which poses a significant threat to national security. The forum expressed concern over the dire situation, citing statements from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) indicating that the power issues may persist due to various technical and security challenges.
The ACF highlighted the negative impact on small and medium enterprises, which are struggling to operate without reliable power, and criticized the apparent indifference from government officials. The forum pointed out disparities in power allocation, noting that while the North generates substantial electricity, it receives the least supply.
ACF urged for an immediate review of the power distribution system, arguing that the North deserves equitable treatment given its contributions. The organization also called on northern governors and National Assembly members to demand accountability and action regarding the power crisis.
