Emeason Chima, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attached to the Ugbokolo unit, was abducted on Saturday near Maduka University in Nsukka, Enugu State. The kidnappers have demanded a staggering N50 million ransom for his release.
Kidnapping Details
Chima was driving alone in his Toyota saloon car when he was attacked and abducted. The kidnappers contacted the Ugbokolo unit commander, Emmanuel Al-Hassan, using Chima’s phone to make the ransom demand.
Regional Insecurity
The South-East region has witnessed deteriorating security, with frequent attacks by non-state actors. These gunmen have carried out multiple abductions, collected hefty ransoms, and occasionally killed their victims. Government officials, military personnel, police officers, and others have been targeted.
Controversy Surrounding IPOB
The Nigerian government accuses the pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of orchestrating these deadly attacks. However, IPOB has repeatedly denied involvement.
Investigation Ongoing
The FRSC has confirmed the kidnapping, and an internal memo details the incident. Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
