A search is currently underway for Mychel Stowers, a Minnesota man recently paroled for murder after he was charged with killing his pregnant wife, Damara Alexis Kirkland, and linked to another shooting incident. Stowers, 36, faces two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the October 19 shooting, which tragically claimed the life of the 35-year-old Kirkland, who was two months pregnant at the time. Responding officers discovered Kirkland’s body inside her apartment, where ultrasound photos and a letter addressed to Stowers were found, suggesting a personal connection between the couple.
Stowers had been paroled in March after serving time for a second-degree murder charge stemming from a 2008 shooting in St. Paul.
On the day of the shooting, he was on a work release pass to visit a woman identified as his ex-wife, despite ongoing divorce proceedings that had not yet been finalized. The apartment owner reported that Kirkland’s estranged husband was living with her, which violated lease rules.
Shortly after Kirkland’s shooting, police responded to a nearby carjacking involving a man who was shot in the leg by someone matching Stowers’ description.
The stolen vehicle connected to the incident was recovered later, but Stowers has yet to turn himself in, even after reportedly calling the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office to confess his involvement.
