Lines stretched out the doors on the first day of early voting, marking what’s called “Golden Day”—the first day of early voting and the last opportunity to register. Broome County’s Republican Elections Commissioner, Mark Smith, shared his enthusiasm for the turnout, noting that this year, over 9,000 new voter registration requests were processed, with over 11,000 requests for absentee ballots.
The county has also introduced a vote-by-mail option, adding to the ways residents can participate in this election.
Smith commented on the turnout, saying that all five early voting locations reported high attendance. “Our election staff works so hard all year long, not just now,” Smith noted, “and it’s rewarding for Broome County elections to see such engagement right from day one.”
Early voting sites, which include local libraries and community spaces like the Taste NY building, will remain open through November 3rd. Each location is accessible daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours from noon to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
