The NNPP achieved a complete victory in Kano’s local government elections, winning all 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats across the state.
In a major triumph, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has secured all 44 chairmanship positions and 484 councillorship seats in the recent local government elections throughout Kano State.
Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, the chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), made the announcement during a press briefing at KANSIEC headquarters on Saturday night.
Professor Malumfashi characterized the elections as peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
Even though AA, AAC, Accord Party, and ADC took part in the election alongside other political parties, none of them managed to win any seats.
The NNPP delivered an outstanding performance by securing all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving no seats for the other 18 political parties that took part in the election.
The results from the headquarters were previously announced at different collation centers by their respective Returning Officers.
He stated, “In my capacity as Chairman of KANSEIC, I confirm the results previously collected and submitted by the Returning Officers.”
According to the newspaper, this decision followed a ruling by the Kano State High Court that authorized the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to carry out local government elections, effectively overturning all efforts by political parties to halt the process.
Justice Sanusi Ma’aji, who oversaw the case, determined that KANSIEC has constitutional authority to administer, supervise, and manage local government elections in all 44 LGAs of Kano State. The legal action was initiated by KANSIEC against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and thirteen other political parties.
This occurred after the Kano State Police Command announced its intention to comply with a court order that restricted it from participating in the election.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this on Friday.
We will adhere to the court order preventing our involvement in the upcoming Kano State Local Government Election. Nonetheless, we are committed to upholding our constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.
Following the court order limiting the involvement of both the police and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, the police have pledged to comply by refraining from participating in the upcoming local government elections.
You are fully aware of the court order received by the Police Command in Kano. According to item nine of this order, the Police are prohibited from participating in the upcoming local government election in the state.
