Nigerian defender Troost-Ekong celebrates after CAF’s favorable ruling boosts Nigeria’s football aspirations and unity.
William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles, has expressed his satisfaction with the decision made by the Confederation of African Football’s disciplinary board regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Libya and Nigeria.
Ekong, who had previously shared the incident on social media and expressed frustration about being left without food, drink, or phone connection due to locked airport gates for players and officials, celebrated what he considered a ‘fair’ ruling.
According to The Nation, the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted Nigeria three points and three goals from the canceled Matchday 4 game in the 2025 AFCON qualification series that was set for October 15th between Libya and Nigeria in Benina.
The captain of the Eagles stated: “JUSTICE: CAF grants Nigeria three points and three goals. Libya is fined $50,000.”
The plane was diverted 300 kilometers from its scheduled airport, even though the pilot informed them that he was low on fuel.
