Former VP Atiku distances himself from the ongoing PDP crisis, stating he’s not involved in party conflicts.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar stated that he is not involved in the leadership crisis affecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Phrank Shuaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communication, informed The Nation that Atiku is not involved in any way with the party’s crisis.
The PDP faced a series of suspensions and retaliatory measures, prompting intervention from the PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the PDP National Reconciliation Committee last week.
Analysts think that the crisis is related to the longstanding disagreements between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Atiku.
Neither Atiku nor Wike received an invitation to Thursday’s meeting, which Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, referred to as “a gathering of all PDP stakeholders.”
There are concerns that the internal conflicts may resurface at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting set for November 28.
When questioned about the potential involvement of Atiku’s camp in efforts by some PDP members to hire lawyers and challenge Justice Peter Lifu’s order, which prevents party officials from removing the embattled acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, Shuaibu dismissed any notion of Atiku being involved in a crisis within the PDP as bizarre.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, is committed to due process and has been concentrating on strengthening the PDP into a more formidable party. He is not involved in any crisis that could hinder the party’s progress.
Shuaibu emphasized that it’s highly implausible and unjust to suggest that Atiku is connected in any way with plans by an individual or group to hire lawyers and contest Justice Peter Lifu’s decision.
