Firms and organizations are offering free breast cancer screenings to support early detection and women’s health.
STL Trustees and STL Asset Management have collaborated to provide complimentary breast cancer ultrasound screenings for 100 women as part of the Care Organisation Public Enlightenment (COPE) initiative.
Now in its second consecutive year, the partnership is part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives carried out through COPE.
The event in Lagos offered both screening services and educational sessions on early detection and disease management.
Akinwumi Oni, Head of Trust Services, Legal at STL Trustees, stated: “At STL Trustees, we implement a sustainability policy. While we are primarily focused on generating profit as a business, we remain conscientious about our impact on people and the planet. We may not have the means to treat cancer due to its high costs; however, we can assist in early detection.”
Ahmed Banu, the Managing Director of STL Asset Management, outlined the reasoning for their involvement: “Last year’s positive feedback encouraged us to make this an annual commitment. We believe we can support efforts against breast cancer since it is a common issue among women.”
Banu suggested potential plans to broaden the organization’s CSR focus to include men’s health, stating: “In addition to supporting women, we are also considering initiatives that promote men’s well-being, such as prostate cancer screening.”
COPE’s Chief Executive Officer, Ebunola Anozie, praised the partnership with these companies as highly commendable. She highlighted that her organization has been offering free services for 29 years and stated that collaborations like this improve their capacity to assist women in prioritizing their health.
She explained that for the past 29 years, their efforts have focused on helping women with early detection of breast cancer. Many women have shared stories about how they avoided mastectomies or found treatment much more affordable due to catching it early.
The core message highlights the current global challenges, particularly in Nigeria, where high costs lead many women to neglect their health. Offering free breast screenings for over 100 women is a commendable initiative by STL. We appreciate this partnership and are hopeful that it will encourage Nigerian women to prioritize their health needs.
