The owner of a black Nissan was robbed early Monday morning when a suspected car thief, Bashir, was beaten black and blue by an angry mob in Akure after he nearly strangled a woman to death while she was taking her son to school.
The Hope Metro gathered that the incident occurred at the Quarter Guard Junction around 8:35 am when the woman was about to cross the road to the other lane. Suddenly, the suspect rushed into her car, struggled with her for control of the wheel, and tried to strangle her in an attempt to steal the Nissan Sunny car.
The woman, whose name was withheld, shouted for help before passers-by intervened and rescued her.
The suspect was eventually caught in the act and was severely beaten by the angry mob, who could not hold back their anger.
Officers of the Amotekun Corps arrived in time to rescue the suspect from being killed.
According to the woman, she had been planning to get fuel for the car when the suspect acted.
“I was so shocked by what I experienced this morning while taking my boy to school,ā she said. āThe suspect was praying by the roadside when I wanted to cross the highway to buy fuel. He suddenly opened the door, pressed my throat, and started dragging the steering with me.ā
The suspect, who could only speak Hausa, apologized for his actions.
