Actress Chizzy Alichi differentiates between Lagos and Asaba movie producers
Nollywood actress Chizzy Alichi shared her candid thoughts on the Asaba filmmaking sector, shedding light on the financial struggles affecting production values.
Speaking with Hiptv, Alichi addressed the limited recognition Asaba actors receive within the larger Nollywood landscape.
She pointed out that Asaba producers typically allocate fewer resources compared to their Lagos-based peers.
Alichi observed that Asaba’s focus on high-volume production often compromises quality.
However, she noted that these budget-friendly films reach a broader audience, including marginalized communities without access to mainstream cinema.
She acknowledged Asaba actors’ widespread appeal, Alichi urged filmmakers to elevate their production standards to match audience expectations.
“The only difference I see here is maybe in the making of the movie. Lagos tends to take their time especially the use of props. There in Asaba, we believe in mass production as e dey hot. Nollywood is everywhere.
“Most of the Asaba actors are more popular because they make the movie with a low budget. It goes to even the village women. Not everybody has time or money to come to the cinema but those epic movies; even the market women, the hawkers, the mechanics, can watch.
“The world has gone past that kind of movie, they need to step it up a bit”.
