Wike: I have dealt with many generous people in my life, none has ever called me slave-Dele Momodu
Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared insights on the connection between political generosity and power dynamics in a recent interview on Arise TV. He challenged the notion that financial assistance should grant individuals unquestionable authority over the recipients.
Reflecting on his own encounters with generous individuals, Momodu highlighted that despite their kindness, none of them expected subservience from him.
During the interview, Momodu compared the levels of generosity between two influential figures in Rivers State politics: the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor, Peter Odili. Momodu observed that Odili’s term in office exhibited more generosity compared to Wike’s administration.
“I firmly believe that generosity should not translate to enslavement,” Momodu asserted. “I’ve interacted with many generous people, and none have ever treated me as a subordinate.”
Expanding on his comparison, Momodu remarked, “I don’t believe Wike’s generosity surpasses Governor Peter Odili’s. It was widely known that Peter Odili was the primary political patron in Rivers State.”
Momodu’s statements challenge the common belief that financial generosity grants the right to control others. He advocates for a deeper understanding of political relationships, emphasizing that leadership should not be centered solely on financial influence.
The interview has sparked conversations about political patronage and the underlying expectations placed on recipients of political generosity in Nigerian politics.
