Comedian Seyi Law expresses his support for President Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, highlighting its positive impact on Nigeria’s economy.
Nigerian actor and comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has commended President Bola Tinubu for eliminating the fuel subsidy.
While the removal has posed challenges for many, Seyi Law maintained that it will ultimately be advantageous for Nigerians.
He stressed that the fuel subsidy should have been removed much earlier, pointing out that eliminating it in 2012 during Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency—when Tinubu-led opposition parties protested against its removal—would have already freed Nigerians from this burden.
He mentioned that the fuel subsidy should have been eliminated a long time ago. Had it been removed in 2012, we would have already experienced and moved past the difficulties by now, entering a period of recovery.
In 2012, I was the sole celebrity to take a stand on stage against the anti-fuel subsidy movement. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala publicly stated that the country couldn’t afford salary payments, saying, “We were borrowing to pay salaries.”
