Governor Otu announces he won’t celebrate his birthday, citing the economic hardship affecting the people as his reason for canceling the celebration.
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has turned 65, but he expresses regret that the severe hardships facing the country prevent him from celebrating.
He was featured on a Sparkling FM Radio program in Calabar, where he made comments about his new age. This occurred when Linus Obogo, the special adviser on media and publicity, along with Barrister Ekpenyong Akiba, the special adviser on general duties, connected him to comment.
Otu stated, “I cannot genuinely celebrate my birthday with the usual fanfare given the current hardships.”
“The country is experiencing significant hardships due to the ongoing hyperinflation. Holding a more extravagant event would be insensitive, which is why it will be kept low-key.”
He thanked the people of the state for their prayers and kind wishes.
The governor stated that his administration was deliberately focused on making a positive impact on the people.
I have held numerous roles in this country and have always met expectations. I promise, with God’s grace, not to let the people of Cross River State down as their governor. There will be added value for everyone.
He announced plans to conduct regular town hall meetings in all three senatorial districts of the state starting next year.
“It will allow people to communicate with me directly, ask unrestricted questions, and hear my responses firsthand.”
