Nigerian artist Falz reveals he wasn’t pressured to follow in his father’s footsteps as a lawyer, saying he chose his own path freely.
Folarin Falana, commonly known as Falz and a well-known singer from Nigeria, has clarified that his choice to study law wasn’t influenced by the accomplishments of his father, Femi Falana.
Falz mentioned this in his most recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
During the interview, the singer disclosed that he drew inspiration from the individuals his father advocated for during his childhood.
I wouldn’t call it pressure, but even when I was really young, whenever I mentioned my name, people would always react by asking something like, “Which Falana? Femi Falana? Oh wow.”
It seemed like everyone had a story about how my dad helped them in a time of need, fighting for them and being there when it mattered. Rather than feeling pressured at that moment, I was inspired to follow in his footsteps.
He mentioned that his father’s work had a profound impact on him, which influenced his decision to study law. However, he practiced in the field for only a brief period.
I practiced law briefly for nearly two years and began transitioning out of the profession in 2014 when things started to improve for me.
