The GOC 1 Division Nigeria Army Headquarters, Major General MLD Saraso Dss, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting the NYSC Scheme in achieving its objectives.
The GOC restated the age-long commitment when he hosted the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mr Hassan Mahmud Taura, in his office at the Headquarters, 1 Division Nigeria Army, Kawo, Kaduna.
General Saraso applauded the significant role of the NYSCΒ in nation building. He commended the ingenuity of the Gowon’s administration that had bequeathed such a unifying institution to the nation.
He assured the State Coordinator and his management team that the Headqurters will do all that it can to provide support to the NYSC in accordance with availableΒ resources.Β In his words, “The Army sees NYSC as a legacy of the Nigerian Military that we would ensure it continues to fluorish and delivers on its mandate. NYSC is a part of us; it was established by a Military Head of State and its leadership is from the Nigerian Army.”
General Saraso also emphasised the role of Corps members in national development and the need for Corps Employers to take the welfare of Corps members as a priority. “On our part, we will continue to provide good welfare for Corps members serving with us. Corps members are regarded as officers and are treated in that manner. They are fully incorporated into the system so that they feel a sense of belonging. They get monthly stipends and a befitting send forth at the time of their passing-out,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mr. Hassan Mahmud Taura expressed his profound gratitude to the GOC for his consistent support to the scheme in the state.
Mr. Taura specifically mentioned the top-notch calibre of men that are deployed to NYSC during Orientation Courses and the recentΒ renovation of the Camp Commandant’s chalet at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Kaduna.
The NYSC Boss thanked the GOC for the reception that was accorded him and his team within the short period of notice, despite the General’s busy schedule. He advocated for the continuity of the strong partnership enjoyed with the military in the state.
