A former Liverpool star suggests Cristiano Ronaldo could buy a football club rather than play for it, naming the possible team in a recent interview.
Mark Lawrenson, a former Liverpool defender, has suggested that football legend Cristiano Ronaldo is more likely to purchase Wrexham, an EFL League One club.
This contradicts a recent assertion that the Portuguese individual might become part of the club’s roster as a player.
According to Lawrenson, while anything can happen in football right now, it’s unlikely that Ronaldo will be playing for Wrexham because of the club’s “small audience.”
Ronaldo’s existing contract with Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr is set to end next summer, and the former Manchester United star is expected to retire at the club.
Consequently, there are numerous rumors suggesting that he might be seeking a new challenge.
At the same time, Wrexham is making significant progress in raising their profile within English football.
Lawrenson remarked to GOAL, “In today’s world of football, anything can happen—even Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Wrexham! However, I find it very unlikely. In my opinion, he’s more likely to buy the club than join their roster.”
Wrexham’s stadium holds just over 10,000 spectators, so I can’t really imagine him performing for such a small crowd. That being said, tickets would likely be tough to come by if he decided to play there.
“Wherever he goes, he’ll pack the stadium.”
