CNPP has threatened to boycott the upcoming Kogi council polls, citing a lack of confidence in the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
The Chairman of the CNPP stated that there was a lack of transparency throughout the preparation for the upcoming election.
It is completely unacceptable for KOSIEC to organize training sessions in preparation for the Local Government election without including any political parties. As of now, we still haven’t received information on the procedures for the council election.
They are leading us to believe that, in order to participate in an election in Kogi State, you must be a part of their inner circle or secret group.
KOSIEC is meant to be an impartial entity; however, what we are witnessing today suggests otherwise.
“It would undermine democracy if the electoral body aligns with the APC to enable their associates’ hold on power.”
“How much longer can we continue in this manner? Nigeria is not a banana republic, and Kogi State cannot operate as an independent entity within our sovereign nation.”
“If we, as stakeholders today, stand by and let power-hungry individuals deny innocent Kogites meaningful grassroots representation, it will be a curse to both our present and future generations. Nigeria is in the midst of political reforms that must endure.”
“Amidst these circumstances, he warned that CNPP might withdraw from the council elections in Kogi State because they have lost confidence in the electoral body.”
