Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that President Bola Tinubu sent his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to pacify him following Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election. Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, George explained that Tinubu sought to dissuade him from leaving Nigeria, as George had previously threatened to do if Tinubu won the presidency.
According to George, Gbajabiamila came on behalf of Tinubu, acknowledging that they had wronged him and asking for calm. George, a strong critic of Tinubu, felt that the gesture was an attempt to reconcile after years of political differences.
In the same interview, George addressed the ongoing crisis in the PDP and his relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Despite recent tensions between Wike and Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, George referred to Wike as a “son” and discussed efforts to mediate the issues between the two.
According to DAILY POST reports, George said, “I saw the shenanigans going on between him and his governor and I called the Chairman of the BoT that it’s important for us to arrange a meeting with Fubara and Wike, to know the problem between the two of them. “Fubara gave us an appointment and set up a committee where we met with him in Port Harcourt, he told us his side of the story. And, when I called Wike that we must see him; he sir I’m going to China and when I’m back we will see.”
He also criticized former PDP Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, accusing him of breaking his promise to step down if the party’s presidential candidate emerged from the north. George emphasized that this broken promise was the root of the party’s internal divisions.
