I am feeling helpless

People usually feel helpless when they run out of options that can help them deal with a certain problem. For example, suppose that a very skilled man was laid off, will he feel helpless? Maybe for few hours but because he is skilled sooner or later he will start to search for another job.
Now what if 2 months passed without finding another job, will he feel helpless? Yes there is a big possibility that he will feel helpless unless he finds another way to make money.
Let’s say this man met me after these two months and knew that he can make a respectable income out of his website just like i do. Will he feel helpless? no he won’t because now he has another option that can solve his problem.
So in short, we become helpless when we run out of options and we experience relief again when a new opportunity shows up.
You might think that this feeling can’t be controlled but the truth is that its 100 controllable. By developing new life skills, learning new things and increasing the number of weapons in your inventory you will become more resilient to life problems because you will always have other options.
If you only had 10 dollars for your transportation in your pocket then lost them before you go home you might feel helpless but if you have a mobile phone that you can use to call a friend who can pick you up or if you have the skill of borrowing money from people you don’t know then you won’t feel helpless.
So the more skills you have the less likely you will feel helpless. Whenever you find an opportunity to learn a new skill, to read a useful book or to know how to do something on your own then go for it and don’t hesitate. After a while you will have lots of life skills that will help you deal with most of the situations you face without feeling helpless.
Helplessness usually lead to depression. Depression is caused by chemical imbalance in the brain but the chemical imbalance itself stems from the person’s inability to deal with a certain life problem.
The more options you have and the more skills you acquire the less likely you will feel helpless and the less likely you will get depressed.
