Following the Tinubu-led administration’s focus on the non-oil sector, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, Friday, reiterated the need for the Federal Government and Zamfara State to synergize and responsibly exploit solid minerals in the State.
Alake stated this when the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja as contained in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori.
He maintained that States are cardinal in the solid minerals sector, therefore, all impediments that serve as clogs in the wheels of seamless operations in the sector must be eliminated.
He said: “Zamfara is one of Nigeria’s most resource-rich states, particularly in solid minerals. All levels of government need to collaborate in responsibly exploiting these resources and ensuring that the revenue benefits both Zamfara citizens and Nigerians as a whole.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, said the high points of their discussion were on security concerns and strategies to better utilize mineral resources in the State, “We discussed security concerns and strategies to better utilize our mineral resources for the benefit of both Zamfara and the nation. We need to explore the necessary infrastructure to attract investors to solid minerals.”
According to the statement, recently, the federal government has made efforts to improve the mining environment in Zamfara including the elimination of several bandit leaders and ongoing security operations designed to create a safer investment climate.
