Alexander Abolore Adegbola, famously known as 9ice, is a talented Nigerian singer, songwriter, and dancer. Born on January 17, 1980, he’s renowned for his impactful use of Yoruba language in music, rich proverbial lyrics, and distinctive delivery style.
Early Life
9ice was born into a large polygamous family with five wives and nine children in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos’ Shomolu Bariga neighborhood, nurturing his music dreams. His parents recognized his vocal talent and supported his aspirations.
Career
9ice’s music journey began with his first demo, “Risi de Alagbaja,” in 1996. His debut solo track, “Little Money,” dropped in 2000. However, it was his 2008 hit single “Gongo Aso” that catapulted him to stardom, earning him:
• An invitation to perform at Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Tribute in London
• Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards
