Kunle Remi who played Saro in ‘Anikulapo‘, will not be returning for the second season, raising questions among fans.
Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced the cast for the highly anticipated second season of ‘Anikulapo‘.
He confirmed today that Netflix has renewed the show following the success of its first season.
Afolayan hinted that the new season will explore more of Nigerian history and culture, including the transatlantic slave trade.
In his Instagram post, Afolayan wrote:
“Unveiling the new stars/talents of *Anikulapo* series… Back and bigger than ever. Netflix confirms new season of ‘Anikulapo’!!!!! We are thrilled to announce that Netflix has officially renewed ‘Anikulapo’ for another exciting season!”
Returning actors include Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Gabriel Afolayan, Owo Ogunde, Aisha Lawal, and Eyiyemi Afolayan.
However, the absence of Kunle Remi, who played Saro, the main character in the first season, has sparked curiosity.
Saro’s character was central to the story, depicting a man whose affair with the king’s wife, Arolake, leads to tragedy.
After being brought back to life by a magical bird, Akala, Saro gains power but is eventually undone by his pride.
The first part of ‘Anikulapo‘, a Netflix original, premiered on September 30, 2022.
