On Friday, 4th October 2024, Ekiti State received 15 CNG buses as part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG).
The cost of the buses will be recovered from the commercial use of long-haul transportation while the state works with the NURTW and RTEAN to eliminate the potential failings of the mass transit system in Ekiti State.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, through the State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, announced the government’s commitment to converting more state vehicles to CNG to reduce transportation costs and promote cleaner energy.
The event also marked the launch of 7 conversion centres across the state, where commercial vehicles will be converted to CNG for free. This initiative, aimed at mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, will also boost job creation, industrialisation and enhance public transportation in the state.
