Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) launched a violent attack on Geidam town in Yobe State, leaving one person dead and several properties destroyed. According to multiple reports, the terrorists stormed the town at around 3:30 a.m., firing explosives and causing widespread panic among residents.
The militants targeted several locations during the assault. Two vehicles belonging to Nigerian Customs officials were set ablaze, and in a shocking act of desecration, the attackers also targeted the grave of a local resident, Khalifah Ayiloma, in Kolori Ward, setting the gravesite on fire.
Among the victims was 60-year-old Dahiru Muhammadu, a night watchman stationed across from Geidam Polytechnic. Muhammadu sustained a gunshot wound to the neck during the attack and was rushed to Geidam Specialist Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
This attack highlights the ongoing threat ISWAP poses to communities in northeastern Nigeria, where the group continues its campaign of violence and destruction. The Nigerian military and security forces have intensified efforts to combat insurgency in the region, though challenges remain as militants target both civilian and government assets in their bid to destabilize the area.
This recent incident underscores the need for increased vigilance and security in towns vulnerable to insurgent attacks.
