Former Nigerian football star and Atlanta Olympic gold medalist, Joseph Dosu, has once again come dangerously close to tragedy after surviving a serious car accident on Wednesday in Lagos. The accident occurred along the busy Ojodu Berger area, a major transportation hub notorious for its heavy traffic and unpredictable road conditions.
Taking to his Facebook page on Friday, Dosu shared the terrifying details of the incident, recounting how a MACK truck, with registration number LND 470 XX, fully loaded with iron, veered off the road and smashed into his car. Dosu and his friend were parked at an Enyo filling station just after the Ojodu Berger bus stop, waiting to refuel when disaster struck.
“To God be the glory, another death escape by Grace and Mercy of God… I and my friend SM were at Enyo filling station after Ojodu Berger bus stop to get fuel… when this MACK TRUCK with registration number LND 470 XX, fully loaded with IRON, left the road and crushed my car,” Dosu wrote, expressing his gratitude for surviving the ordeal unharmed.
This close call marks yet another chapter in a life that has already seen its fair share of near-death experiences. Dosu’s once-promising football career was tragically cut short in 1997 after a severe car accident left him with life-threatening injuries, nearly paralyzing him and ending his time on the pitch. At the height of his career, Dosu was celebrated as a hero, having played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s historic 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medal win.
For Dosu, Wednesday’s incident serves as a haunting reminder of how fragile life can be, especially on Nigeria’s roads, where accidents are far too common. Despite the shocking event, the former goalkeeper is counting his blessings, thankful that both he and his friend escaped without injury.
The incident underscores the dangers posed by Nigeria’s poorly regulated roads, particularly concerning the heavy-duty vehicles that frequently cause accidents. With a history marked by one tragic accident after another, Dosu’s latest brush with death is a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life, as he once again emerges as a survivor of the perils that have followed him since his football career was tragically cut short.
While Dosu remains safe, his story continues to resonate as one of resilience in the face of adversity, with his fans and supporters expressing relief that the football legend has once again escaped tragedy by the grace of God.
