Halilu Sububu was the one who gave Boko Haram all the weapons, the ammunition, and the funding-Army
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has highlighted the crucial implications of neutralizing Halilu Sububu, a prominent commander of insurgent forces in the region. Musa described Sububu as a pivotal figure who played a vital role in supplying weapons, ammunition, and funding to insurgent groups. His removal, according to Musa, has significantly disrupted the insurgents’ operations, leading to disarray within their ranks.
In an interview with TVC, Musa pointed out that the current situation among the insurgents is marked by desperation, particularly in the case of one of their remaining leaders, Bello Turji. He believes Turji’s recent actions indicate a recognition of his precarious position, suggesting that the death of Sububu has instilled fear and urgency in the leadership of the remaining insurgents. This sentiment is reflected in the video messages released by Turji, which Musa interprets as signs of desperation and concern over his future.
The Chief of Defence Staff further noted that internal strife among the insurgents has intensified due to disputes over the spoils of their activities. These conflicts, driven by competition for resources and power, have further weakened their ability to operate effectively. Musa views these developments as advantageous for the Nigerian military, as the infighting among insurgent factions presents opportunities for the security forces to capitalize on their vulnerabilities.
Musa attributed the recent successes against the insurgents to a combination of an enhanced military strategy and increased public support. He emphasized that the cooperation of local communities has been instrumental in identifying and targeting the remaining insurgents. This grassroots support has facilitated intelligence gathering and has proven critical in the military’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the insurgent networks.
While expressing confidence in the military’s capability to defeat the insurgents, Musa highlighted the importance of sustained effort and what he referred to as divine intervention. He indicated that the military’s strategy has been refined to intensify operations and delve deeper into insurgent strongholds. This proactive approach, coupled with community backing, is expected to yield further progress in the campaign against insurgency in Nigeria.
Musa conveyed optimism about the future of the military’s operations against the insurgents. He assured that the death of Sububu marks a significant turning point, and that continued pressure will likely lead to the eventual defeat of the insurgency. The Chief of Defence Staff’s statements reflect a commitment to eradicating the insurgent threat and restoring stability in the affected regions of Nigeria.
According to him, “He’s (Halilu Sububu )the one who gave them all the weapons, the ammunition, for the funding and everything. So taking him was a major hit and you can see the videos that Turji has been releasing of late. It shows desperation; he is really very desperate and scared because he knows his days are numbered.”
