Tesla announced on Thursday that it is recalling over 27,000 Cybertrucks due to delayed rear-view camera images, which could hinder driver visibility and heighten the risk of accidents.
The automaker stated that a software update would correct the issue. This recall, the largest for the electric truck, follows previous ones in April and June for other issues, such as a loose accelerator pedal pad and problems with windshield wipers and exterior trim.
The Cybertruck, first delivered in November 2023 after a two-year delay caused by production and battery supply issues, has not had its production or delivery numbers disclosed by Tesla.
CEO Elon Musk introduced the truck, designed with a Blade Runner-inspired look, to revitalize the company’s lineup amid slowing electric vehicle demand.
Tesla noted that the delay in the rear-view image is due to the system not completing a shutdown process before restarting, causing a blank screen for six to eight seconds when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
All current production Cybertrucks have received the necessary software fix.
