Emeka Beke, the recently reinstated chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, has commented on the impending state local government elections.
According to him, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has been receiving voter registrations from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since 2023.
In light of this, he asserted that the October 5th local government election will use the 2023 register. This claim was made by Emeka Beke in a Channels Television interview with a few journalists.
In the interview, Emeka Beke stated, “States used the 2023 register given to RSIEC by INEC for the conduct of 2024 local government elections.”
The 2023 voter register is what all the states are using to conduct all the elections right now, and as such, I do not see why the case of Rivers State should be different.”
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied releasing the voter registration to the RSIEC in order to conduct the upcoming municipal elections.
But RSIEC argued that they had already received the register and that the election had to proceed as scheduled.
