Mail delivery has been temporarily halted in a Kansas neighborhood after a postal carrier was assaulted by two men while trying to fend off a pair of large dogs.
The incident occurred on September 21, prompting police to respond to a battery call, where they found the carrier with facial injuries. Residents at the 41 affected addresses in Wichita will now need to collect their mail from the nearest post office, according to Paul Shade, a spokesperson and inspector for the U.S. Postal Service.
The carrier was delivering mail when he was chased by two dogs. In an effort to protect himself, he used pepper spray against the animals and then hurried back to his vehicle.
However, he was followed for several blocks by the two men, who then assaulted him. Thankfully, Shade reported that the carrier is expected to recover.
Police are actively searching for the assailants, and no arrests have been made as of yet. The suspension of mail delivery will remain in effect until the situation is resolved.
