Former President Trump’s GoFundMe campaign, initiated in response to Hurricane Helene, has successfully raised over $3 million as of Tuesday for those affected by the Category 4 storm.
The fundraising page states, “President Donald J. Trump has launched this GoFundMe campaign as an official response for MAGA supporters to offer their financial assistance to their fellow Americans impacted by Hurricane Helene.”
The initiative was organized by Meredith O’Rourke, Trump’s campaign finance director, and has garnered support from notable figures, including Florida Senator Rick Scott, musician Kid Rock, and UFC President Dana White, each contributing $50,000. The largest donation came from Trump’s close friend Steve Witkoff, who donated $500,000 to the relief efforts.
The GOP leader has faced criticism for allegedly “politicizing” the hurricane response, with accusations that he misrepresented President Biden’s communication with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp regarding resource allocation.
Governor Kemp publicly refuted these claims on Monday, commending Biden for his prompt assistance. On Monday, Trump visited Georgia to distribute supplies to residents affected by the storm, while Vice President Harris is expected to visit the state on Wednesday to assess the situation.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll shows Trump leading Harris by 6 points in Georgia. Newsposter has reached out to the Trump campaign for further comments.
