The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has responded to a viral video showing policemen retreating after being resisted during an arrest attempt. The video, shared by an X user, alleged that the officers were trying to abduct a man for extortion, but fled when citizens raised an alarm.
Adejobi clarified that the officers in the video were not acting unlawfully but were members of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on an official duty. According to him, the officers were investigating the murder of a policeman at Benin airport in July. The individual who resisted arrest is a suspect in that case, and a warrant has already been issued for his arrest.
“The man is a murder suspect, and though the officers left when the situation became chaotic, he will still be arrested. It’s just a matter of time,” Adejobi stated, urging the suspect to turn himself in to address the allegations.
He emphasized that the officers were justified in their actions, as they were carrying out a lawful arrest in connection to an ongoing investigation.
