He is the youngest son of the iconic Hubert Ogunde, a pioneer in Nigerian theater. In the 1970s, Owobo Ogunde demonstrated his acting talents by portraying Oriadekigbe in his father’s production “Aropin T’Enia” at Glover Hall, Lagos

His father, “Hubert Ogunde” altered the name to Ogunde Theater Party in 1947 and Ogunde Concert Party in 1950. Eventually, in 1960, it became Ogunde Theater, a title that endured until his passing in 1990. He’s often hailed as “the father of Nigerian theatre” or “the father of contemporary Yoruba theatre.”
Hailing from Ijebu Ososa, Ogun State, Nigeria, Owobo graduated from Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, and embarked on his acting journey on the theatrical stage. His performances left a lasting impression on numerous stage plays and films.
Owobo is married to Adetutu Ogunde, a lawyer and human rights activist. They share two children, adding a heartwarming dimension to Owobo’s narrative
