According to her neighbors, a young girl tragically died after falling from the window of her family home following an argument with her mother about an iPad.
The unnamed 10-year-old toppled from a window of the apartment in the Bronx, New York City last Thursday, September 12.
Her mother found her in the courtyard of their building when she returned from a doctor’s appointment.
She was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital by her mother, where she was tragically pronounced de@d. Doctors confirmed the girl had suffered injuries consistent with a fall from a high elevation as investigations into the tragedy continue.
Sources told CBS the girl and her mother had earlier argued about the use of an iPad.
A neighbour of the building told the New York Post : “My son called out to me and told me to call 911. I called 911, and they kept asking me questions.
“I thought something happened to someone who got off the bus with him [her son]. I didn’t know it was my neighbour’s daughter upstairs.
“She lives above me. Those kids were kept very nice and clean. I’m sorry for the mother. I feel for the mother.”
Another neighbour, Madeliene Martinez, added: “That’s incredibly sad. Someone lost their child, cousin, little kid, probably missed by her friends at school. No, that’s crazy.”
A memorial with pink flowers, purple balloons and candles was set up outside the building.
New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the city medical examiner will determine the cause of the child’s de@th.
No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
Officers are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area to discover if the child was being supervised at the time she fell from the window of their home.
Property management firm Phipps Houses Incorporated said it was “heartbroken” and was fully cooperating with the NYPD.
