Elon Musk faced backlash on Sunday after he posted a message on X suggesting that “no one is even trying” to assassinate Vice President Kamala Harris, following what the FBI described as a second apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Musk’s post, which he later deleted, was made hours after the alleged attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida. He had reposted a message questioning the motive behind attempts on Trump’s life and added, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Kamala,” with a thinking face emoji.
After deleting the post early Monday, Musk described it as a “joke” and acknowledged that it might not have been well-received without proper context. Critics, including former Rep. Adam Kinzinger and conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg, condemned the remark as inappropriate and indefensible.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign and Secret Service confirmed that the former president was unharmed in the incident.
The situation followed a previous attack on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally in July. Musk has recently faced scrutiny for other controversial posts on X.
