In a potential shift in policy, President Joe Biden has hinted that the United States may lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of US-supplied long-range missiles against Russia. This move could address Ukraine’s ongoing requests for more flexibility in using these weapons, as they continue to defend against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Speaking to reporters, Biden said his administration is “working out” whether to allow Ukraine to use these missiles to strike deeper into Russian territory, a step the US has previously resisted to avoid escalating the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that such actions could lead to “very serious problems.”
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy are heading to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Their visit comes after talks in London, where Blinken accused Iran of supplying Russia with ballistic missiles—something Iran denies. These missiles could significantly bolster Russia’s military capabilities in the conflict.
This development follows fresh sanctions from the US, UK, France, and Germany on Iran for its support to Russia, which includes restricting Iran Air’s flights to Europe and freezing assets of those involved in the military supply chain.
Tensions remain high as Ukraine continues to seek Western support to counter Russian forces.
