The Kwara State Polytechnic Students’ Union Government has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the state police command to address their demands regarding the tragic murder of one of their colleagues, Abdulqoyyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, allegedly by a police officer in Ilorin last Wednesday.
“Otherwise, we might be left with no choice but to heed the pressure from the majority of our student members who have called for a peaceful, unceasing and unrelenting protest to fight for justice,” declared the Students’ Union Government at a press conference in Ilorin, led by its President, Saheed Olalekan Ishola.
The Students’ Union Government further demanded the public unveiling of the police officers involved in the killing of the ND 2 student, stating, “We will not rest until our demands are met. We will not be intimidated; we will rise, and our voices will not only be heard but must be made to count.”
According to the students, “To say the least of the insensitivity and lack of empathy from the Nigeria Police Force, it is our realization that less than 24 hours after the unfortunate incident, police officers were spotted on the same route, harassing and extorting innocent young people who were going about their daily lives peacefully. Their only offense was being students—young and good-looking.”
