A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Joe Igbokwe, has lamented the recent hike in electricity tariff, warning that it will have devastating effects on businesses if not urgently addressed.
In a passionate plea, on his Facebook page weekend, Igbokwe shared his personal experience with the new tariff, revealing that his small office in Surulere, which previously consumed 305 units of electricity for N20,000, now gets only 80 units for the same amount.
He noted that the electricity lasted for just one day, under the new “Band A Group” classification.
Igbokwe appealed to the Presidential Business Advisory Team (PBAT) to intervene, saying, “PBAT, please look into the new electricity tariff in Nigeria. It will kill businesses if the government does not act as quickly as possible.”
His outcry echoes the concerns of many Nigerians who are struggling to cope with the increased electricity costs, which have been introduced by the Tinubu-led federal government to reflect the true market value of the commodity.
