The National Association of University Students (NAUS) CMC Ondo is deeply dismayed and outraged by the heinous assault on students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), by security operatives accompanying the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
A Peaceful Attempt Turned Violent
the Student Union President, Comrade Boladale Oyindamola (popularly known as MANDELA), and his executive members were met with unwarranted hostility. Their attempt to welcome the Governor and discuss pressing campus issues, including the approved but yet-to-be-implemented road dualization project, was brutally suppressed.
Tear Gas, Beatings, and Gunshots
Security operatives tear-gassed and viciously beat the students, sparking chaos and panic. The situation escalated further when gunshots were reportedly fired by the security personnel. This senseless violence has left the students of AAUA traumatized and seeking justice.
The leadership of NAUS Ondo CMC Demands Justice
We condemn this blatant attack on student leaders and peaceful students in the strongest terms possible. We demand:
1. A public apology from Governor Aiyedatiwa to the students of AAUA.
2. Immediate action to hold the security personnel involved accountable.
3. Urgent dialogue between the state government and student leadership to address pressing campus issues.
A Call to Action
We will not stand idly by while the rights and dignity of students are trampled upon. We call on the larger Nigerian community to join us in demanding justice and accountability. Together, we can ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that the voices of students are heard.
