In a shocking daylight attack, gunmen stormed the God’s Doing Healing and Deliverance Ministry in Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday, leaving one youth leader, Samuel Ogbonna, dead. Ogbonna, the owner of a local restaurant and bar, was a close aide to the church’s General Overseer, Evangelist Maduabuchi Ernest, also known as “Dibia Ekpere or Father MEMC.”
Witnesses reported that around 4 p.m., eight gunmen arrived in a red Highlander and a black Lexus sedan during a church program. When told that the General Overseer had not yet arrived, the gunmen grew furious, ordering the congregation to lie face down while they seized phones, bags, and cash.
“They demanded to see the Pastor, and when he wasn’t there, they terrorized us,” a witness recounted. “As they left, we heard gunshots. Elder Ogbonna, who had tried to hide in a bush, was chased down and shot multiple times.”
The attackers also abducted two worshippers, a man and a nursing mother, who were later released along the Owerri-Orlu Expressway. The gunmen fled with the church owner’s car, leaving the community in panic and the church locked up as many residents fled for safety.
