Bluesky continues to expand its reach, with the company announcing that it has added 3 million new users as of Friday morning, pushing its total user count to over 9 million.
This growth represents a significant increase of approximately 50 percent in just over a week, following a Brazilian court’s ban on X (formerly Twitter). The ban has propelled Bluesky to the top of Brazil’s free iPhone app charts, where it currently holds the number two spot behind Meta’s Threads.
In addition to the latest user figures, Bluesky has informed users that video support is “coming soon.” Originally launched as a Twitter-backed initiative to develop an open social protocol, Bluesky has since evolved into an independent, venture-backed startup, opening to the public in February.
Notably, 85% of its recent users are Brazilian, a surge that has led to some technical challenges as the platform adjusts to its rapid growth.
