By Jennette McCurdy
This book is a deeply personal memoir that chronicles the author’s journey through grief and healing following the death of her mother.
It relates the Jennette’s experience with an overbearing mother who had cancer before her death. Jennette shared her issues with bulimia, as individuals with bulimia often experience feelings of guilt, shame, and lack of control surrounding their eating behaviors.
Here are some lessons you can learn from the book —
1. Do not be ashamed to seek for help when you struggle with getting through a phase.
Despite that Jennette didn’t like the idea of therapy, she underwent it. She ran off after being in contact with the first therapist because she taught it was too difficult to navigate. However, she returned to therapy when she realized how much damage her mental state could cost her overall well-being.
2. Kids should be allowed to enjoy their formative and teenage years.
As a parent, it is not enough that you want your child to make your unachieved dreams come true.
Do not force your unfulfilled dreams on your children! They deserve to grow up with so much love and care, even as you help them grow to function as balanced individuals of the society.
3. No matter how great isolation makes us feel, it isn’t always the best option.
Whenever you’re stuck, what you need at times is supoort from those who care. This is what her friend Miranda Cosgrove who was her co-actress on the set of iCarly did for her. She was her supportive system during and after the show ended.
We all need supportive friends in our circle.
4. Your life shouldn’t be toyed with; take control of your life from those people and circumstances that eat you up.
You do not deserve to be miserable. Stay clear from overbearing people who choose to blame you for their misfortunes, just like Jennette did to her mother Debra. You should read this book.
