When I got admission to study medicine and surgery in the university, our course adviser came to advise us. He introduced himself to us and also asked us to introduce ourselves one after the other.
We were 30 students in the department. We started introducing ourselves. The first person introduced himself and went further to say he is the second son of a sitting senator.
The second person said he is the son of a managing director of a known commercial bank in Nigeria.
Almost all of them were children of either MDs, Senators, Reps members or top political office holders and church G.Os.
I was the last to introduce myself. I stood up and our course adviser asked me to introduce myself. I refused to talk because my parents were nowhere close.
I stood for more than five minutes without saying anything. I summoned courage and told our course adviser that I want to see him outside.
He followed me outside. I told him the reason I didn’t want to introduce myself like others did was because my parents were nobodies, that my father was an okada rider, while my mother was a vegetable seller and they were resident in the village.
He was surprised. He entered the class and said that it’s only me that had a true parent.
He further pledged to be paying half of my school fees till I graduated just to help my parents.
