President Biden celebrated former President Jimmy Carter ahead of his 100th birthday, expressing deep admiration for him. In a heartfelt birthday message released to CBS News, Biden told Carter, “Mr. President, I admire you so darn much.”
He highlighted Carter’s hopeful vision for the country, his commitment to creating a better world, and his steadfast belief in human goodness, describing these qualities as a guiding light for many. Biden referred to Carter as “one of the most influential statesmen in our history,” acknowledging both his accomplishments during his presidency and his continued impact through initiatives like the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity.
Biden reminisced about his early support for Carter’s presidential campaign in 1976, marking it as the first endorsement from an elected official outside of Georgia.
He emphasized Carter’s role as a moral force, stating, “You’re a voice of courage, conviction, compassion, and most of all, a beloved friend of Jill and me and our family.”
The president also acknowledged the bittersweet nature of this birthday, as it is the first one without Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in November 2023.
“We know this is the first birthday without Rosalynn. It’s bittersweet, but we also know she’s always with you,” Biden assured, adding that her spirit would forever remain in Carter’s heart.
