Multiple award-winning broadcaster, philanthropist and convener of Help One Foundation, Mr James Emmanuel Expensive (aka De General Badman), has said, as patriotic citizens, it is the responsibility of Nigerians to make things to work in the country and not give up because other people failed the country.
Addressing journalists, Saturday in Abuja, shortly after being inaugurated as one of the 1000 Peace Ambassadors of Nigeria by the Peace Ambassadors Advocacy Network Nigeria (PAAN), Expensive advised the federal government to make life comfortable for Nigerians as the country celebrates 64 years independence from Britain.
He said: “Every human being must be happy when being awarded. I’m grateful. I appreciate this award as it will encourage me and other recipients to do more. Before now we’ve been promoting peace. For those of you that know me and listen to my program, I’m a peace ambassador already. I am a peace-loving, patriotic citizen of this country.
“I’m trying to make the country better by promoting unity with my platform and it’s not a new thing to me. That’s why I said I’ll do more. I’ll continue to preach peace all over the world, not only Nigeria. We preach it beyond where we are today and you know what’s happening in the country.
“We pray the Lord should equally give us His own support to overcome insecurity and so that every body will be In love with one another. You know, with regards to different ethnic groups in Nigeria, different religions in Nigeria, we need to make them understand that we are one. We don’t need to fight against religion, we don’t need to fight against tribe we don’t need to fight against ethnicity basically.
“Nigerians should love one another because you can’t achieve peace without love see everybody as one see everybody as your brother and sister at the same time. Let’s embrace peace and unity and let’s preach love. If we see ourselves as one, there would be no problem in the country.”
He added: “The Help One Foundation has been existing since 2013 and we’ve done a lot. We’ve trained the vulnerable. We’ve trained school dropouts and given them scholarships. We’ve trained jobless youths in driving. We gave a lot of artisans connections to job opportunities, which they used to travel to different parts of the country for different jobs.
“We’ve empowered widows. Presently, we are empowering people in solar e6 installation and inverter repairs. In the next two weeks, about 50 people will be learning about solar installation, inverter repairs and battery repairs.
“We’ll be training them on business management and setting up their own companies. We are equally registering their companies with the CAC, so Help One Foundation has gone a long way.
“As a patriotic citizen, the Nigeria’s independence is worthy to be celebrated because we’re alive. Second, it’s our responsibility to make things work, so we will not say if some other people have failed, we should allow the country to fail.
“It is our responsibility as Nigerians and patriotic citizens to contribute our own quota to the growth of the country. So, maybe in the next two years or four years, Nigeria will be better than where it is today and that is my dream.
“The government should listen to the cry of the people they say the voice of the people is the voice of God. If the people are agitating for what they are lacking, I appeal to the government to listen to the people.
“Do what they want. That is governance. Government should listen to the people and give them comfort. Presently, what we need is comfort because we are not comfortable. So, if government gives us comfort, I think the sky is a starting point.”
