The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had killed another high-ranking Hezbollah official, Nabil Kaouk, in an airstrike, further impacting the Lebanese militant group following the recent death of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council, is the seventh senior member of the group to be killed in Israeli strikes within a week. Following these developments, the Israeli military confirmed another targeted strike in Beirut, although details were not immediately available. Hezbollah has also acknowledged the death of Ali Karaki, another senior commander, during a strike that targeted an underground meeting place for Nasrallah and other leaders.
In addition to its operations in Lebanon, the Israeli military launched airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, responding to a recent ballistic missile attack on Israel. The strikes targeted power plants and seaport facilities in Hodeida, a stronghold of the Iranian-backed Houthis.
The Houthis claimed to have taken precautions before the strikes and vowed to continue their attacks on shipping routes and Israel. Meanwhile, U.S. officials warned that while Israel’s airstrikes have severely weakened Hezbollah’s command structure, the group is likely to quickly attempt to rebuild it amid ongoing hostilities that have displaced hundreds of thousands in Lebanon and heightened regional tensions.
