Spotify experienced significant technical issues on Sunday morning, with thousands of users unable to access the streaming service. According to uptime monitoring service Downdetector, user error reports began surging around 10:45 a.m. ET on September 29, with complaints rising to over 9,000 by 11 a.m. and surpassing 15,000 by 11:35 a.m.
Many users encountered error messages like “Something went wrong” when attempting to play music on the desktop app, while the mobile apps also proved unresponsive for numerous listeners.
The outages were reported across the U.S. and extended to users in Canada and other countries. In response, the Spotify Cares customer service account on X acknowledged the issues at 12:15 p.m. ET, stating they were investigating the problem.
The support team suggested potential fixes, including reinstalling the app and restarting devices. Spotify, which has had intermittent outages in the past, reported 626 million monthly active users as of June, including 246 million Premium subscribers.
