Historians, explorers and colonialists have over the years praised and kept talking, writing and exploring the Benin town planning and organized city arrangements. Coming into Benin City Edo State, Nigeria today, you will see how houses are built and how town planning is in full effect.
On Friday 27th September 2024, I took out time to go for an oversight inspection of projects going on around the City. I started at the cottage hospital which was built to world standard by Hon Eghe Ogbemudia, the chairman of Egor LGA. The beauty and quality of the hospital was beyond what an average local government Chairman should think about not to even talk about undertaking and finishing a tenure. I spent quality time there asking residents and indigenes critical questions as regards the healthcare initiative of Hon Eghe Ogbemudia. They were all elated, happy and very positive about the healthcare and the location of the facility.
After the inspection and interview, my erudite team and I took a walk round the community and environs and what we saw beat our imaginations. Driving to the teachers’ house, we took a detour to avoid the hustle and bustle of the new Lagos road. We saw the first class roads that were constructed from teachers’ house all the way to Adolor, Ekosodin, lucky street, Estate junction and many others which were so well constructed with a good drainage system.
It’s baffling when I begin to hear numerous people saying that Governor Godwin Obaseki didn’t work, didn’t deliver and didn’t live up to expectations. It’s really mind bugging and confusing at the same time.
Gov Obaseki really worked on these adjoining roads, linking them from one end to another and making sure they all had drainage. Take another example, the federal road at Ugbowo via the Holy Rosary road all the way to Okhoro, lawani et al. These are all good road construction and beautifications.
You might like or hate Gov Godwin Obaseki and his style of governance, but you do yourself a great disservice if you refuse to recognize his good work done in the civil service, public service, education, road construction et al.
Until the people get better, we will not rest.
