The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has officially begun the recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024, across the state. This crucial step signals ABSIEC’s readiness to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process.
In a press statement released by Dr. Kelechi Okere, the ABSIEC Commissioner II in charge of Information, Voter Education, Training, and Publicity, the commission called on suitably qualified candidates to apply for various election roles. These include Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers (POs), Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs), Poll Clerks (PCs), and Assistant Poll Clerks.
According to Dr. Okere, interested applicants are required to submit a hand-written application to the ABSIEC offices in their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs). The statement urged applicants to address their applications to the ABSIEC Chairman and ensure submission before the deadline on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Alongside their applications, candidates must provide two passport photographs, a photocopy of their staff identity card (where applicable), and their curriculum vitae.
Professor George Chima, the ABSIEC Chairman, had earlier unveiled the election timetable, urging all political parties to adhere strictly to the outlined schedule and the commission’s guidelines. As the recruitment process kicks off, ABSIEC’s commitment to a fair and inclusive election is evident, and all eyes are on the commission to deliver a credible local government election in Abia State.
