A shocking incident involving the assassination of the son of retired Supreme Court Justice Mohammed Musa Dattijo has raised serious concerns across Nigeria. The tragedy comes just two months after Justice Dattijo’s official quarters were burgled, with the culprits remaining unidentified.
Chidi Odinkalu, a law professor and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, took to his X account to express his alarm over the situation. He noted the increasing threats to the lives of judges and their families, urging the authorities to take swift action.
“Two months after retiring from the Supreme Court, unknown persons burgled and emptied Justice Muhammad Dattijo’s official quarters before vanishing into thin air. Last month, they assassinated his son,” Odinkalu wrote, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
The attack on Justice Dattijo’s family has left many Nigerians worried about the safety of public officials, especially those who have retired from service. Justice Dattijo has reportedly asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to launch an investigation into the incident.
This growing trend of attacks on judges and their families has heightened fears and calls for stronger security measures to protect officials, both active and retired, as well as their loved ones.
