Hackers linked to the Chinese government have infiltrated multiple internet service providers in the United States, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
This breach, referred to as Salt Typhoon by US officials, reportedly occurred in recent months as the hackers sought sensitive data or aimed to establish a foothold for potential cyberattacks.
The extent of the damage and the specific information accessed by the hackers remain unclear. The Chinese Embassy did not provide a response to the Wall Street Journal’s request for comment regarding the incident.
